Bees are naturally defensive and opportunistic insects. When they first begin to search for a new home with the queen, they scan for areas that are hard for predators to reach and see, and areas that can withstand different elements such as wind and rain. This process can occur in the early parts of spring and take up to 4-5 months. Once a spot is picked for the beehive, workers and scouts will scavenge the nearby areas for food and materials to bring back to the hive.
